The History

Tequila is a regional specific name for a distilled beverage made from the blue agave plant, primarily located in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, 65 km (40 mi) northwest of Guadalajara, Jalisco. The red volcanic soil in this region is particularly well-suited for the growing of the blue agave, more than 300 million of blue agave are harvested here each year.

80 years after the Spanish arrival in Mexico, Don Pedro Sánchez de Tagle, Marquis of Altamira, began mass-producing tequila at the first factory in the territory of modern-day Jalisco.

By 1608, the colonial governor of Nueva Galicia had begun to tax his products and Spain's King Carlos IV granted the family the first license to make tequila to start commercializing it.

Independencia 1810 is a tequila made with history; a history inspired by the Mexican Founding Fathers that gave their lives for the Mexican Independence. It goes from selecting the best agave plants in the field to extract all the agave juice, to the cautious double distillation of fermented agave juice giving our tequilas a unique taste.
